AMBASSADOR ALA: ISRAELI OCCUPATION AUTHORITIES VIOLATE BASIC RIGHTS OF THE PEOPLE OF OCCUPIED SYRIAN GOLAN

In a statement delivered at the 34the session of the UN Human Rights Council on item 7 “human rights situation in Palestine and other occupied Arab territories” which is held in Geneva, Ala pointed out that the occupation authorities are violating the rights of Syrians in the occupied Syrian Golan due to the measures and restrictions imposed on them.

Ambassador Ala said that in parallel with these practices Syrian citizens in the occupied Syrian Golan are exposed to the arbitrary detention at the hands of Israeli occupation authorities due to their national stances.

He renewed Syria’s condemnation of the continued illegal arbitrary detention of the Syrian prisoners from the occupied Syrian Golan by the Israeli occupation authorities and demanded the immediate release of them, on top of them Sedki al-Maket.

Ala highlighted the Israeli violations of international law and human rights in the Golan through the illegal Israeli settlement and the adoption of measures to change the character and demographic composition of the occupied Syrian Golan which been condemned by the UN resolutions.

“At the same time, the occupation authorities continue to facilitate the construction of settlements and encourage foreign settlers to settle in the Golan providing financial and encouragement incentives to them in violation of the international humanitarian law,” Ala added.

Commenting on the Israeli officials’ statements on adhering to Israel’s illegal occupation of the Syrian Golan, Ala said that the Syrian Arab Republic rejects these statements which violate the UNSC resolution No.497 for 1981 and it considers that the continuation of suspicious silence about Israeli policies and practices that violate the international law, the 4th Geneva Convention and all UNSC resolutions encourages Israel to persist in supporting terrorist groups in the disengagement of forces zone in the Golan in order to prolong the war and strengthen the Israeli occupation of the Syrian Golan.

Ala said that Israel disregards all international resolutions condemning its practices in the occupied territories, calling on it to halt its settlement, end its occupation and withdraw from all occupied Palestinian territories, including Eastern Jerusalem, and the occupied Syrian Golan to the line of 4 June 1967.

He stressed that the Israeli military aggression on the Syrian territory on March 17 is the latest form of supporting terrorist groups after the successive defeats they received at the hands of the Syrian Arab Army, adding that Syria is dealing with this aggression as a violation of international law, UN Charter, UNSC resolutions and disengagement agreement and it calls for condemning this aggression since it forms a serious threat to the international peace and security.

Ambassador Ala concluded its statement by saying that the latest report of the ESCWA wasn’t the first and it will not be the last one that reveals the real face of the last colonial occupation regimes in the modern age.
